Not always easy

“My specific reason for participating in the Fulbright Program Discover the USA can be expressed in a single word: wish, will, desire, dream, aim.”

That was the beginning of my motivation letter for the Fulbright scholarship back 10 years ago. I was selected. And had an incredible time in Kentucky.

However, being abroad does not mean all is great and fun. It is also hard and sometimes even quite challenging. You have to adjust to a new place: your home, doing simple things like your weekly groceries, or making friends. All these experiences change you, make you stronger and one day you will look back and be incredible thankful for all it: the good but also bad times.

So, for sure it wasn’t always great and sometimes quite challenging being in the United States but looking back now after 10 years: Kentucky did not only strengthen me. It left a huge simile within me for the rest of my life thanks to the wonderful people I met.
